Artist Statement

I have always been enamored by stories of fantasy worlds, faeries, and creatures of the night. I combine the everyday experience with the mystical and the otherworldly. My work traverses the connections between fantasy, identity, gender, and queerness. I illustrate affection through narrative storytelling and character design work

Sage Marshall Dausch is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Black Hills of South Dakota. They received their BFA at Black Hills State University in 2023. Their work is influenced by fantasy novels, video games, and the world around them. Sages artwork centers on queerness and identity in combination with fantastical influences as thematic elements. Sage is passionate about telling stories in their works utilizing various mediums; screen-printing, digital programs, painting, and three dimensional forms. They have had multiple works displayed in the Ruddell Gallery in Black Hills State University and were awarded first place in 2021, and second place in 2022. Sage has had print based work displayed in a selective group show at the St. Louis Artists Guild Gallery in St. Louis, Missouri, along with print based work in a group show held at the College of Southern Idahos’ Sunspot Gallery, in Twin Falls, Idaho. They have also had works included in the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Symposium and virtual gallery space titled The Future is Queer. Sage has presented their work on queer fantasy in printmaking at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) 2023 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
